Can any activity be a MEI, or are some professions left out?

Not all of them. The MEI covers a list of permitted activities, and some professions are left out, mainly regulated ones. So the first step is to check whether what you do is allowed. Choosing the wrong activity blocks the registration or causes problems later. TF Con checks whether your work qualifies as a MEI and points you in the right direction if it doesn't. You start out in the right format from the beginning. If your profession is a specific one, confirm with your TF Con accountant whether it can be a MEI.
