What documents do I need to gather to open the company?

The basics are simple: your RG (ID card) and CPF (individual taxpayer ID), an up-to-date proof of address, and the address where the company will operate. If you have a partner, their documents too. Depending on the activity, a specific license or approval from the building management or city hall may be required.
